grantee updates
Chicago Furniture Bank
CFB has announced their new leadership team AND a new effort to connect with businesses that need to dispose of excess furniture (like realtors, organizers, estate sale organizers, etc).
Fun fact: CFB’s new Executive Director, Paul De Boer, is related to Impact Grants Chicago member Tammy De Boer. Tammy learned about CFB’s search for a new ED during one of our Grantee Engagement events, relayed the information to Paul, and the rest is history!
- The Honest Junk Company needs your stuff! Check out the flyer below to donate furniture and household items you no longer want. Honest Junk is a nonprofit junk removal service started by CFB to fund their mission, and your donations are critical to Chicago Furniture Bank. (They're also tax-deductible.) Pass the word!
Resilience
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). In addition to their powerful Standing Silent Witness event at Daley Plaza on April 28, Resilience invites you to attend a variety of workshops and other events that raise awareness and support victims of sexual violence.
Chicago Survivors
- JaShawn Hill, who presented at our Lunch and Learn event in 2021, has been named Interim Executive Director of Chicago Survivors.
Common Pantry
- Common Pantry held a New Home Construction Kickoff on January 27th at their new home at 3908 N Lincoln Avenue. (Our Impact Grant helped to fund the renovation of this new space, which is anticipated to open this spring.) You can see highlights of the ceremony and renderings of the new space in this video.
- Common Pantry also reports serving 30% more households during the first 18 days of March compared to the same period in March 2022, following the end of emergency SNAP allotments to low-income individuals and families.
