our history

Impact Grants Chicago will begin its third year with the upcoming 2019/20 grant cycle; however, our story actually began in 2012 when Georgy Ann Peluchiwski and Allison Bacon collaborated to create a women’s collective giving group based on the national Impact model originated in Cincinnati, Ohio. They began that same year by forming a City Chapter within the already existing Impact 100 Chicago that operated out of the northwest suburbs and accepted grant applications from all eight counties in the Chicagoland area. Over the next five years, the City Chapter grew from 123 to 436 members and awarded a total of over $1.5 million.

In June of 2017, the entire leadership team of the City Chapter decided to concentrate all of their giving in the city of Chicago and founded Impact Grants Chicago to continue their work of awarding annual $100,000 grants to Chicago nonprofits.

We are proud to say that in our first two years as Impact Grants Chicago, we have awarded a total of $1,000,000! This includes NINE $100,000 Impact Grants along with $100,000 in Merit Grants. Please see our 2019 Grantees and 2018 Grantees pages for more information about the impressive Chicago nonprofits who have received our grants.

We are excited to continue our journey and hope you will join us in 2019/20.
